The sun shined down on a much anticipated return to Wake County Speedway with the CARS Tour. The Bullring is a tight 1/4 mile racetrack that produces some up close and personal racing. 13 hot rods would showcase the caliber of SGP racing.
Two rounds of practice would roll off without any issues and make way for the SGP to take the first green flag of the night. The highly contested pill draw would put your starting lineup as follows
1- Barry Dalton (m) 2- James Turner (s)
3- Bobby Griffin (s) 4- Brandon Hobbs (s)
5- David Hill (m) 6- Allen Rowe (s)
7- Preston Clark (m) 8- Kevin Floars (s)
9- Josh Roberts (s) 10- Brooks Jones (s)
11- Jerry Jefferies (m) 12- Bob Wallace (s)
13- Lindsey Pond (s)
Brandon Willard would drop the green as the cars came two wide barreling down into turn 1. Dalton would set sail as a storm was brewing behind. Griffin would carry the KFC machine to the point for the sportsman division. Floars would set sights to the front bringing the train in tow, taking the overall lead on lap 6. Lap 13 would see a caution as Hobbs would tangle in turn one with Jefferies, and claiming Jones as collateral. A prime example of why we do not allow for passing of lap cars to the inside. Jones would suffer major frame damage, and put him out for the remainder of the night, a hard hit on a well built new 69 Mach 1 Mustang. After extensive cleanup, the field would comeback to the green and shake out as Roberts and Wallace would be hung behind modified leader Dalton, who was manhandling a broken power steering pump, once cleared they would chase down Griffin, but not before Griffin and Turner would tangle off of turn two. Both drivers would continue on with minimal damage. Griffin would fail to answer the call from Charlie Ball in the tower to concede his position as he was involved in the caution, and would stop being scored. The restart would see Floars being stalked by Roberts and Wallace, meanwhile the modified leader of Dalton would blow a power steering line and have to pit, giving the lead to David Hill. Roberts and Wallace would let the rears hang sideways giving chase, but were unable to contest Floars for the win. 35 would come and go and see Floars takes the sportsman win and Hill would claim the modified win. The two “attaboys” would go out to Pond in only his second SGP race wheeling home a top 5, the apple don’t fall far from the tree, And Clark who we only usually see at SOBO would step out big tonight and get a 2nd in class. Your final rundown:
1-Floars 2-Roberts 3-Wallace 4-Pond 5-Hill 6-Turner 7-Clark 8-Rowe 9-Griffen 10-Dalton 11-Hobbs 12-Jones 13-Jefferies
You can catch the SGP back in action April 12th at Southern National
